Prospects for the Use of Folk Ornaments in the Global Fashion Industry
The growing interest of the global fashion industry in ethnic motifs and traditional ornaments, including Kazakh, presents new opportunities for integrating national cultural heritage into contemporary design. This study aims to explore the integration of Kazakh ornaments in global fashion, focusing on their cultural and commercial significance. The research seeks to answer the following questions: How have Kazakh ornaments evolved and been adapted in modern design? What are the cultural and economic implications of their integration into global fashion trends? What challenges and prospects exist in popularizing Kazakh ornamentation worldwide? The methodology combines historical and cultural analysis, comparative studies and an examination of contemporary designers working with ethnic motifs. The study finds that Kazakh ornaments, characterized by zoomorphic, geometric and floral motifs, represent a unique system of symbols rooted in mythology, nature and social values. In the 21st century, Kazakh designers have successfully integrated traditional patterns with modern silhouettes, fabrics and digital production methods, contributing to the global recognition of Kazakh ornamentation in haute couture and street style. Similar processes are observed in other countries, such as Turkey, China, Romania and Kyrgyzstan, where traditional motifs are actively adapted to modern fashion trends. The research highlights that the use of folk ornaments not only preserves cultural heritage but also facilitates its global dissemination. The novelty of the study lies in its interdisciplinary approach, offering insights into how ethnic motifs can be commercialized while preserving their cultural identity. The practical significance of the work lies in its potential to guide the development of national fashion brands and strengthen cultural identity within the global fashion market.
