Batik Sunda, an Indonesian batik variant, features diverse design elements expressed through ornaments of various shapes, colours and compositions, reflecting Sundanese cultural heritage. This batik is traditionally produced in the historic batik centres of the Priangan region. As a potential product in the creative economy, Batik Sunda is deeply intertwined with the history of visual culture development. Innovation in batik, particularly in product diversification, leverages local Sundanese ornaments as a foundation for exploring and applying local wisdom. The objective is to design Batik Sunda through a process of visual adaptation, guided by good design principles and enriched with the aesthetic elements of Sundanese cultural expressions. This article examines how Batik Sunda has been transformed through the visual adaptation process to produce new ornamental variants, giving rise to modern interpretations of this traditional art form. The findings demonstrate that visual adaptation plays a key role in fostering the creation of innovative batik designs that adhere to the principles of good design.
