Abstract

α-Fe2O3 material was synthesized by a new green chemistry method extracted from pomelo with the characteristic structure, α-Fe2O3 shows the O↔Fe↔O functional group, the hexagonal crystal characteristics and the calculated crystal size is 72.16 nm. In addition, α-Fe2O3 was applied as an effective adsorbent to remove Congo Red and Brilliant Green dyes as organic dyes from aqueous solution. Best adsorption conditions of α-Fe2O3 were recorded with CR: 60 minutes, temperature 50 ℃, pH8, dosage 1 g/L, concentration of 250 mg/L. Best adsorption conditions of α-Fe2O3 were recorded with BG: 30 minutes, temperature 30 ℃, pH4, dosage 3 g/L, concentration of 100 mg/L. The maximum absorption capacity under optimal conditions was 33.701 mg/g for BG and 130.700 mg/g for CR. The adsorption process was predicted to be mainly controlled by physical and chemical interactions on the monolayer adsorbent surface.
