Fundamental achievements in science, philosophy, architecture, design and art, along with the synthesis of multiple civilizations and the universalization of humanist principles, define Islam’s contribution to the creation of global cultural heritage. In brief, Islamic culture, while ensuring the preservation and transmission of human values to future generations, requires not only aesthetic and intellectual approaches but also complex cultural-historical mechanisms. These mechanisms are essential for advancing historical scholarship, refining artistic expression, elevating architectural styles and fostering dialogue across subtle cultural boundaries. My synoptic approach to the broad cultural history of Islamic civilization, combined with specialized research in particular fields, has raised questions that I believe non-Islamic historians should also consider. Although this article cannot comprehensively discuss the diverse branches of Islamic culture, its foundational aspects or the limitations encountered in its synthesis with other traditions, it highlights certain areas that have been either underexplored or scarcely addressed. From the perspective of contemporary scholarship, this study examines one of the least researched aspects of Islamic architecture: vegetal and geometric ornamentation, as well as the principles of color, light and acoustic design. It investigates how the physics of sound was employed in medieval Islamic architectural complexes, how mosques and madrasas optimized their acoustics and the challenges of applying this knowledge today. Through the lens of modern neurology and design research, the article also explores the psycho-emotional and therapeutic applications of color-light dynamics - how sunlight was managed within complexes, how stained-glass systems created light regimes and how these influenced human psychophysiological states. Finally, it considers the mechanisms by which spatial design in architecture affects human well-being, analyzing how mosque design balances meditative tranquility with spiritual comfort.
