Variability of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus Isolates from Stone Fruits in Belarus and Azerbaijan
This study evaluates the molecular variability and phylogenetic relationships of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) isolates collected from various stone fruit hosts in Belarus and Azerbaijan. Analysis of a partial coat protein gene sequence revealed a moderate level of genetic diversity among the studied isolates, with pairwise nucleotide distance (p-distance) values ranging from 0.0000 to 0.0476. The Azerbaijani isolate demonstrated high genetic similarity to the Belarusian sweet cherry samples, showing a low nucleotide divergence of 0.0063. Phylogenetic analysis of 31 sequences confirmed that the studied population is distributed across three distinct global phylogroups: PV96, PV32 and SW6. The majority of the Belarusian samples, including the Azerbaijani isolate, clustered within the PV96 group. One Belarusian sweet cherry isolate grouped into the PV32 cluster and cherry plum isolate was assigned to the SW6 group. No clear phylogenetic differentiation based on host plant species or geographic origin was observed.
